One of the biggest changes I made during my health journey was making protein a priority. When I first started learning about nutrition, I realized I wasn't getting nearly as much protein as I thought I was. Once I began strength training, I also learned how important protein is for building and maintaining muscle, supporting recovery, and helping me stay full throughout the day. Over time, I've found a few products that make it much easier to reach my daily protein goals. These aren't products you need to be healthy, but they've made healthy eating much more convenient for my busy lifestyle.
1. My Go-To Protein Powder
Mornings are usually busy in our house. Between getting ready for work and helping my kids get out the door, I don't always have time to make a high-protein breakfast. That's why I almost always start my day with a protein shake and my coffee. It's an easy way to get about 30 grams of protein first thing in the morning, and it keeps me feeling satisfied until lunch.
What I look for in a protein powder:
At least 20–30 grams of protein per serving
Minimal added sugar
Mixes well without being chalky
Tastes good with coffee or smoothies
My favorite: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder. This powder comes in a ton of different flavors and is reasonably priced compared to some other protein powders.
2. My Favorite Protein Shaker
If you've ever tried mixing protein powder with a spoon, you know it doesn't work very well. A good shaker bottle makes all the difference. I keep one at home and another in my work bag so I always have one available.
Why I like it:
No clumps
Leak-proof
Easy to clean
Great for taking to work or the gym

3. Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is one of my favorite ways to add extra protein without much effort. I usually pair it with berries and a handful of granola for a quick breakfast or afternoon snack. It provides protein, calcium, and keeps me full much longer than sugary snacks.
4. Cottage Cheese
I know cottage cheese isn't for everyone, but it's one of the highest-protein foods you can keep in your refrigerator. I like eating it with fruit or using it in recipes to boost the protein content.
5. High-Protein Snacks
Having protein-rich snacks available helps me avoid grabbing whatever is easiest when I'm hungry.
Some of my favorites include:
String cheese
Hard-boiled eggs
They're easy to keep on hand and help me stay on track during busy days.
6. Protein Coffee
One of my favorite habits is combining my morning coffee with a protein shake. It's quick, convenient, and helps me start my day with around 30 grams of protein. If you already drink coffee every morning, this is an easy habit to add without changing much about your routine. Sometimes when I don't have time to mix a shake I will just grab a Premier Protein Cafe Latte and run out the door.
Remember: Food Comes First
While I love having a good protein powder available, it's important to remember that supplements are just that—supplements. I try to get most of my protein from whole foods like chicken, eggs, Greek yogurt, fish, beans, and lean meats. Protein powder simply fills the gaps on busy mornings or after a workout.
Final Thoughts
You don't need a cabinet full of supplements to eat enough protein. A few simple, high-quality products can make healthy eating much easier, especially when life gets busy. These are the products I personally reach for because they fit my lifestyle and help me consistently meet my protein goals. Healthy habits don't have to be complicated. Sometimes they start with something as simple as a protein shake and a cup of coffee before heading out the door.
